Anchoring a sweeping brick and Tudor village corner in Birmingham suburb, Mountain Brook, is popular breakfast and lunch spot, Another Broken Egg Cafe. This is one of many Broken Egg locations across the Southeast, Indiana and California, but it doesn’t have that “chain” feel.
We stopped in this past Sunday at about 10:30am for breakfast before hitting the road back to Asheville, NC. The wait at that time was 15 minutes. Luckily we’d made it before the crowds. Check out pictures in the gallery to see what I’m talking about.
We were seated in a room through the bar to the left of the hostess desk. Walls are painted soothing shades of salmon and green with brick lining the wall behind the bar. Be sure to check out the cute wall sconces throughout Broken Egg. My only issue with the room we were in was the huge flat screen featured (and I mean featured) on a far wall set to a news channel.
Coffee and one of their signature dishes, Biscuit Beignets kept us busy while we waited a short time for our meals.
Both our meals were done well: omelette soft and fluffy on the inside, perfectly cooked asparagus, excellent Hollandaise, and a light, flaky croissant.
Service was terrific. One of the better experiences I’ve had lately.
